Connecting Leaders crystaldawn langton

Principals from across the province came together with international educator Simon Breakspear to explore The Pruning Principle — a way of leading that’s all about focusing on what matters most for students.

Just like a gardener trims back branches so a tree can grow stronger, school leaders “prune” their time and energy to make space for the practices that have the greatest impact on learning and well-being.

Working collaboratively across schools builds what we call the Circle of Courage — a framework that reminds us every learner (and every leader) needs:

Belonging — to feel connected and supported within a strong district team.

Mastery — to keep learning and improving for the good of our students.

Independence — to lead with purpose and clarity, making thoughtful choices.

Generosity — to share ideas and lift others through collaboration.

When principals learn together, our entire school community benefits. It means more alignment, more support for teachers, and ultimately, more opportunities for every student to thrive.

In our district, we’re not just growing schools — we’re growing a connected, courageous learning community.
